About the Role in UNDP
The chosen candidate will collaborate with teams and regional partners to plan and execute projects on:
Environmentally friendly cooling.
Sustainable economic programs.
Plastic pollution mitigation.
Waste management and chemicals.

The expert will assist the UNDP country offices in the Arab States region to assist governments and organizations in bridging the gap between global environmental pledges and domestic programs.
UNDP Job Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Partnerships
- Build partnerships with governments, NGOs, donors, and research institutions.
- Identify new opportunities for projects in waste management, circular economy, and pollution prevention.
- Participate in regional and global environmental planning initiatives.
- Advocate for policy reforms in climate and environmental management.
Programme Development and Project Management
- Support the development and implementation of GEF-funded projects and other donor-funded initiatives.
- Guide UNDP country offices in designing environmental programmes aligned with national priorities.
- Monitor project performance and ensure alignment with UNDP results frameworks.
- Provide technical expertise in sustainable cooling and pollution prevention.
Policy Advisory and Resource Mobilization
- Track global policy developments related to international environmental agreements such as:
- Basel Convention
- Rotterdam Convention
- Stockholm Convention
- Montreal Protocol
- Provide policy advice and training to governments and stakeholders.
- Support the development of project proposals and funding applications.
Knowledge Management
Document lessons learned and best practices for future programmes.
Develop training materials and knowledge products on chemicals and waste management.
Facilitate regional learning and knowledge-sharing events.
Eligibility Criteria of UNDP Job
Applicants must have:
Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience
Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Engineering, Economics, Chemistry, Public Administration, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience, OR
Work Experience
Candidates should have experience in:
- Environmental policy and project implementation
- Waste management and circular economy initiatives
- Climate and energy programmes
- International cooperation or development programmes
Experience working with UNDP, GEF, or other international environmental funds is an advantage.
Language Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in Arabic
Knowledge of another UN language such as French is considered an advantage.
