Overview of Journalism Fellowship
The Institute for Diverse Leadership in Journalism and Communication is a professional development fellowship designed to mentor and train academics for leadership positions in journalism and communication education.

Fellows continue working at their home universities while participating in the program activities throughout the year.
Components of Journalism Program

2. Mentor Program
Each fellow will be paired with an experienced academic administrator who will serve as their mentor.
Mentorship activities include:

• A week-long campus visit to observe administrative responsibilities and academic management firsthand
This mentorship helps fellows understand how academic leadership works in real institutional environments.
3. Networking Opportunities

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Must be a current member of AEJMC
• Must be associate or full professors interested in academic leadership
• Journalism or communication professionals who have transitioned to academia may also apply
• Applicants must have at least three years of full-time academic experience
• Must demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to diversity in education

Part 3 – Letters of Recommendation
Applicants must submit two recommendation letters:
• One from the applicant’s chair or dean
• One from another professional familiar with the applicant’s work
The chair or dean must confirm that the institution will support travel expenses to the two required AEJMC conferences.
