The University of Pretoria (UP) is one of Africa’s leading research universities and hosts the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI), internationally recognized for research in plant health, entomology, and agricultural biotechnology. This fully funded PhD opportunity is offered under the Macadamia Protection Programme and focuses on designing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy against the macadamia felted coccid (Acanthococcus ironsidei), a destructive invasive pest threatening South Africa’s macadamia industry

3. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- MSc degree in Entomology or a closely related field
- Strong analytical, statistical, and scientific writing skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
- Valid South African driver’s license (required for field trips)
- Willingness to:
- Conduct extensive fieldwork and laboratory research
- Assist with insect rearing
- Work occasional weekends and after hours if needed
